About the Departments

The program stems from the cooperation between three departments: Dipartimento di Elettronica, Informazione e Bioingegneria (DEIB), Dipartimento di Ingegneria Gestionale (DIG), and Dipartimento di Matematica (DMAT).

Dipartimento di Elettronica, Informazione e Bioingegneria (DEIB) is one of the largest European ICT departments, both for its dimensions and for the quality of its research activity. Research is the main focus of DEIB, pursued according to the highest international quality standards. The four department sections related to the Ph.D. in Information Technology cluster consolidated competencies in systems and control, computer science and engineering, electronics, telecommunications, and bioengineering. DEIB mainly supports the courses offered by the School of Information Engineering, but its members also perform teaching activities in the ICT field for all the other Schools of the Politecnico di Milano.

Dipartimento di Ingegneria Gestionale (DIG) was established in 1990 as the Department of Economy and Production (DEP). The Department’s main objective is research, which is pursued through collaborations with leading Italian and international schools and institutions. Alongside research, the Department focuses on education. The Department of Management, Economics and Industrial Engineering, with MIP Politecnico di Milano Graduate School of Business, is part of the School of Management of Politecnico di Milano.

The Department of Mathematics (DMAT) at Politecnico di Milano is the second largest in Italy by the number of full-time staff and has been ranked first in Italy for the quality of research in recent assessments. The department is responsible for the teaching of Mathematics and its applications at the Politecnico and in particular for the Master degree in Mathematical Engineering. The department has a long tradition of carrying out research of world-class excellence in a broad range of subjects across pure and applied mathematics.
