Admission
Admission to Ph.D. programmes is based on a selection process conducted through public calls. Candidates are evaluated on their academic qualifications, curriculum vitae, a personal statement of motivation, and a proposed (non-binding) Ph.D. research project. All required documentation must be submitted at the time of application. Qualifications enabling enrollment may be submitted at a later stage, provided they are obtained and presented prior to enrollment.
Multiple calls are published annually for general, thematic, and interdisciplinary scholarships. Enrollment dates vary depending on the specific call, with the earliest in mid-September and the latest between May and June. All calls are officially announced on the website of the Ph.D. School at Politecnico di Milano.
In specific cases, candidates may be admitted outside of public calls by resolution of the Faculty Board. These include candidates applying under international agreements, executive Ph.D. programmes, or transfers from other doctoral programmes.

Admission steps
Ph.D. call opening
You will have one month from the opening date of the call to submit your application through the dedicated online procedure. The full list of documents to submit with the application, the number of positions offered (with and without scholarship), and the financial terms are detailed in the call. Usually, it is requested to submit a CV, academic qualifications and publications and a research proposal. You can also express interest in competing for specific thematic or interdisciplinary scholarships.
Admission results
About three months before the start of the Ph.D., a ranking is drawn up by a Selection Committee. Admissions and scholarships are assigned according to the corresponding ranking. Thematic scholarships are awarded based on the preferences expressed by the applicant and the eligibility established by the Selection Committee. If no preferences have been expressed, the applicant is only considered for generic scholarships.
Acceptance
If admitted, you must accept the position with or without a scholarship. Rejected positions will pass to the next eligible applicant in the rankings.
