Major Research topic:
The resilience of Italy: ; Space-time model of Italy on economic-social variables

Abstract:
The resilience of a territory can be defined as its ability to attract new human resources. Understanding the factors that make a territory resilient and identifying areas of development for future growth is of paramount importance.

The aim of this work is to create a model for describing the resilience of Italian territories, using the data made available within the GRINS project.
Thanks to the different classes of variables present in the datasets, there is the possibility to measure and describe resilience from various socioeconomic aspects.Variables can be grouped into macro-categories, such as economic, health, labor market, tourism, university, demographic, urban and environmental indicators.
Starting from these, a first objective of the research will be the synthesis of some indicators aimed at measuring the resilience of a territory and estimating its untapped potential (attractive gap).

The analysis will focus primarily on the data engineering necessary to prepare the dataset for investigations, exploring gap-filling techniques that take into account spatial dependence and the hierarchical structure of the data, and then on their spatio-temporal modeling.Downscaling, Upscaling, change of support, and gap filling are examples of techniques that will be considered for the model's development. Among the possible applications of the results of this modeling, one can hypothesize the creation of resilience maps of Italian administrative units, aimed at supporting precise policies on territories.
