Major Research topic:
Embedding human rights in corporate sustainability: intentionality, accountability and supply chains dynamics

Abstract:
This research investigates how companies integrate human rights into their corporate strategies and supply chain practices. Structured across three papers, it examines (1) the prioritization of human rights at the strategic level through the analysis of CEO statements and executive compensation schemes of European listed companies, (2) the implementation of human rights due diligence (HRDD) practices across multi-tier supply chains through a case study, and (3) the factors driving or hindering corporate accountability for human rights impacts. As regulatory frameworks and stakeholder expectations increasingly demand corporate sustainability, ensuring respect for human rights is not only an ethical imperative but also a strategic necessity for companies to mitigate reputational, legal, and financial risks. The study addresses notable research gaps, including the limited empirical analysis of corporate human rights practices, the underexplored social dimension of sustainability, and the lack of insight into lower-tier suppliers within global supply chains. By bridging insights from Business and Human Rights (BHR), Sustainable Supply Chain Management (SSCM), and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) research streams, the study aims to provide a comprehensive framework for understanding and improving human rights performance across global supply chains, contributing to both academic literature and corporate practice.
